I don't understand it!

I've been away again, for work. Travelling way down south to Invercargill and Gore. Its the "delegate training time of year", which means I will hardly have my suitcase unpacked for the next 6 weeks or so. The kids hate it, mainly because apparently their father can't do their hair properly. Gasp. One of you is 14 - do it yourself, honey!!

I admit to being rather creeped out when I have already signed in as a guest at a hotel, then go out for a walk or to shop. I find it creepy when I return to my room and find the curtains drawn and a chocolate on my pillow with a note from the housekeeper...I don't like the idea that someone has been in. Its kinda like letting a complete stranger wash your underwear!

Anyway, what I don't understand is why oh why do hotel suites insist on putting a tall mirror opposite the loo? Do they really think people want to watch themselves "go"?

It seems to be one of life's mysteries unless somebody out there has an answer??

Now, a treat of Kiwi music for you since the musicians union has worked out a deal with YouTube for kiwi music! It's not my usual 'type" of sound but there is something rather catchy about this song.....

Yes, the mirror thing mystifies me too. I don't like looking at myself at the best of times but certainly not when I'm chopping a log. Mayb it's to check that you get yourself properly clean afterwards? Wouldn't a hand mirror be more economical?

I'm not sure about the mirror.....perhaps it's so people are made more self-aware, and not so inclined to trash or dirty the place !

Hi Steve - I am worried that maybe it is to make the room look bigger. Trouble is, its not only the room that looks bigger!!

Villager - hadn't thought of that. You could be right.

I think the mirror thing is so that people can check they haven't left their flies undone and they look respectable when leaving the bathroom. It is actually a requirement in UK that they go into all disabled loos. Dignity reasons I imagine, though I take your point!

Yes I prefer self-catering apartments to hotel rooms. More privacy and flexibility to come and go and eat what/when you want.

I don't get the mirror at all. Of course given the amount of weight I've gained, I don't like the concept of mirrors anywhere in the house.

I know what you mean about people being in your hotel room. It is creepy.

Mirrors are abominations wherever they are placed. But it would put me off if there were one opposite the bog - dear me.

Oh and I hate it if people invade my personal space - even if it is just borrowed space like a hotel room. Makes me feel nervous that they might still be lurking there somewhere and stops me talking to myself like I generally do.

I didn't like the youtube though for once.

So males can check the fly is zipped?
Do 'Goreans' or 'Gorites' still speak with a distinct burr to their accent?
I once dated a Traffic cop from Gore, & his accent was certainly very different!
I suspect the 'music' is more related to American Rap than Kiwi?
On the other hand, what do I know, it has been a long time, & the bands that are wildly successful are all claimed by OZ-- Crowded House, Dragon, etc etc.

Poet - the problem I have with that theory is that when one is facing the mirror one can see if one's fly is undone....

Mike - haha, I'm sure your mirrors are more than complimentary!

RB - I agree, the music is not my usual thing either!

Meggie - oh yes, there are more than enough "r's" in their speech! It's endearing, and I have to say I dream up questions that prompt more than enough "r's" in the response! Maybe they're part pirate? RRRRRRH>
