Me and Cliff

Yep, you heard the man - I'm going on holiday. I am officially off work as at 4.30pm today and not back at the coal face until 1 February. Can't wait. That happy laughter and popping of corks will be me, in the garden, languishing in the hammock....

I will however be close to our new and improved PC (sprogs willing) and will be able to keep up with what everyone is doing and perhaps bore you all with bits of what I'm doing! It won't be all champagne and skittles tho' rest assured, we're painting the Scowly Teen's bedroom and clearing clutter. There will be tears before bedtime while we try and locate stuff that possibly wasn't junk. I don' t know why I wait until holiday time to do this sort of activity but I do.

Meanwhile, and by way of a discussion point, we've been having bother with the neighbours dogs. One of them is a nasty looking Argentinian Fighting Dog, the other some kind of serious-jowled staffy...they have appeared uninvited in our yard a few times and have shown more than a neighbourly interest in the wabbits. The council have been fabulous, and one of their dog control guys phoned me today just to check on how things were with these mutts. I had to report that we had not seen them since Christmas Eve and that in my view the guy deserved a payrise! He was very thankful for that I think but no doubt depressed that I am in no position to do anything about it. I mean, I am a rate payer but I think that money goes into the public trough for the free-for-all that passes for allocation of funds.

Isn't it great when a humble public servant does such a great job, enthusiastically too. Is there a "Appreciate your council staff member " day? If not, there should be!! My children and rabbits are currently safe from the marauders.

Not sure what you have done but the text is very small and doesn't fit the area provided. The post below is OK.
Have a nice time.

I wish your dog warden's patch extended to my garden! The warden's here were very nice but virtually powerless. In the end we forked out £800 for a new fence... and then the bloody neighbours and their dog moved!

Have a great time - hope your typeface problem is fixed soon!

Tenon - thanks for the heads up, I think it's fixed now?

Steve - how inconcsiderate of your neighbours!!

Rol - thanks, am thinking that in my haste to vacate my post (hehe) I prodded the wrong button for font size..all fixed!

Dear Saj, I think one of those dogs got his teeth into your html code... the font size is fine but words are jumping to a new line in the middle of the word with no hyphen or anything... or are you just playing around to see if we can still read it ??? Whatever, I hope you don't see any loose dogs again around your house... Sounds like what happened to Steve there a while back ! My advice to Steve was something like : Get a shotgun !

People should keep their dogs under control, or not keep dogs... imho... I hate reading the constant stories in the press about pit bulls and other breeds mauling people. There was that awful story from San Francisco a few years ago where a lovely young lady got mauled in her apartment hallway by crazy neighbors' dogs.

So, a new PC in the house ??? Hope it's working ok ! And jeez, this is just not right, you being on vacation and all in 30° weathing in January ! What a lucky sod you are now !!!

Ahhh..marauding mutts. I hate them. We used to have a problem with those when I lived in Michigan. Fortunately, so far here in Texas it hasn't been so much of a problem. I believe they enforce doggie laws down here a little better than in other parts of the states.

Enjoy your holiday!

Oh happy holidays. I hope you won't actually be taking Cliff with you? If so, my mother will probably turn up on your doorstep as she is crazy about Cliff. She is a bit scary too so could be useful re the dogs.

What a pain though re the dogs but yes, good service from the official. No-one here seems to be pro-active like that. When we had our bother with the mad woman who kept cutting down bushes, we had to ring the Council every day if we wanted them to do anything.

Enjoy the sunshine. I so wish we had some.

(Your text has gone all weird - I can only read the post in the comment box by clicking on "show original post".) Maybe Mr council can sort it out for you???

Ah, Cliffy...I do have a soft spot for the old boy. I saw him in a variety show in London when I was 11, with my grandmother. It was my first ever "rock" experience. The teenage girl in the seat in front of me went completely bonkers, shrieking and quivering, and dropping her lit cigarette, which sent her parents scrambling between the rows on their hands and knees to retrieve it and put it out. The theatre seats actually had ashtrays on the backs of them! No one in Canada had ever heard of the lad, and I was thrilled beyond reason when "Summer Holiday" came out a few years later.

Maybe you'll have time to wander in from the champers and hammocking and bikini flaunting and bedroom trashing to keep in touch during your hols. But if not, have a great one!

Thanks everyone, am trying to enjoy the break but the weather is actually shite!!

What a lovely long break and what a perfect time to have it. Even your shite weather will fab. If I had a few weeks off now, I would spend it tucked up under the duvet which is my favourite place to be when the the temperature is BELOW ZERO

Have a great break, Sag, and keep away from the Cliff !

Blimey, another holiday so soon after Crimbo! What generous employers you must have.

Good luck keeping the wabbits safe. Perhaps you should dress them up as wolves, just to be on the safe side.

What an amazine dog control warden you have. Our council never ring back about anything.

Thanks so much, my Mum lOVED Cliff, so've spent the day singing
'Summer Holiday' which got me on to
'Living Doll' and now ' Carrie doesn't live here..' where will it end ?
I bet that chap was dead chuffed with what you said even if you don't have the power to increase his earnings.

Belatedly - have a great hols, Amanda!! Where did you go for your break, anyway? Hope the weather improves...as someone who came back from 35 oC weather in Brazil to sub-zero temperatures in the UK, I kind of appreciate the sun and hate the cold even more...so hope you have a good 'un.
