RIP Gretel

Poor wee Gretel, he didn't like earthquakes and the aftershocks have taken their toll. Last night he was looking a bit sad and this morning I noticed he hadn't eaten and was very listless. I carted him off to the Vet, but sadly they were unable to save him and Gretel died about 15 minutes afterwe got there. Apparently as a survival technique rabbits rarely show they are unwell until it is practically too late. I still feel terrible about it tho'.

We had a wee burial service for him and the girls have accepted that this can happen.

Tomorrow will be another day.

Oh hell, dear sister, it's just one thing after another...

I'm truly sorry for you and for Gretel, and others who will miss her...

I'm beginning to think that earthquakes create serious stress on mammals, even mammals at a great distance.

Thinking of you often, even if the "News" channels have swept Christchurch off the stage with the even more dramatic things to see in Japan, we are thinking of you, lots of warm energy headed your way...

Owen- Yep, it's not been the best of days but I know there are people worse off than me.

Steve - thanks, buddy. I guess the hutch just got an extra room...

Selina, aw thanks sweetie. It does feel like it's not going to be my week...the other rabbit, Daisy, is a bit off colour too so he's going to the vet in the morning. Fingers crossed.

Oh no, poor Gretel. He was such a gorgeous handsome bunny too. Hope that Daisy is OK xx

It's so sad to loose a family pet. Poor sweet little thing. This world can be hard on gentle creatures.

So sorry. You didn't need this. But then nether did Gretel - or Daisy.

Oh dear, how sad and on top of everything else.

How old was she?

It may have been her time to go irrespective of the earthquake?

I quite like the fact that a rabbit doesn't show anything until it's time to go.

Pity we humans don't have that same quality.

Thanks for your kind comments, poor Gretel was only coming up 3 this year. Daisy seems to be pining, so have been back to the vet to get a check but so far they don't think anything is wrong.

Its a long story, but Daisy and Gretel are both boy rabbits. By the time we found that out we had been calling them Daisy and Gretel for so long we just stuck with it!

So sorry, Saj. I remember when you got him; it was my first visit to your blog. And am I right to say there was a pictue of ancestors, too, in that same post? To me, they all looked so Irish! I couldn't find it in 2009, but maybe it was prior? Were you able to attend the memorial service for the terrible tragedy NZ had? Or probably it was televised. Such a terrible loss, including Gretel. those photos are heartbreakers; maybe you'll get a new girl bunny soon? All my love, Margaret

He's gone and joined Frith. As Fiver would say he's now in Watership Down.
