Thirsty Thursday

There has been an increase in the wasp population down here; not sure exactly why but the boffins claim that we had a mild winter and this means the wasps weren't killed off with the cold. Anyway, I have certainly noticed more of them in the gardens around the city and definitely in our own 2 backyards!

It seems fitting therefore that this weeks drink is...

STINGER

45ml brandy
15ml white creme de menthe
ice

Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice, stir, then strain into serving glass. Down the hatch!

Do you know that wasps are basically flying ants? They all belong to the same family apparently. Annoying buggers though, aren't they?

Seen in Stuff.co.nz

"Not all wasp news is bad.

Dr Ward and his Auckland-based research colleagues are in the process of naming a newly discovered species of small, rotund wasp after Hobbit characters.

S. bilboi, S. frodoi, S. meriadoci, S. peregrini, S. samwisei and S. tolkieni are among the names being discussed."

Sir Peter Jackson didn't know what he started

The new genus is only found in New Zealand.

One of my all-time favourite songs! All the fields around here, though, are white--with snow. Maybe make my drink a double brandy?
