Its funny what you find in secondhand bookshops

I have often wondered how people came to name their blogs, is their title chosen at random? Does it have a second, hidden meaning that only they know? (And given the anonymousness of most blgs this would be believable). Did someone choose it for them? Was the one they wanted already taken and they had to improvise?(yes, thats what happened to me...)
Anyway, I was prowling through a few second hand bookshops this weekend, looking for the odd treasure or even just something that caught my eye as I love books, even the feel of really old smelly ones that have been left alone too long. And look! I found this book, in a wee shop tucked away in New Brighton. Of course, I am keen to hear from anyone about how they named their blog but I have been thinking now about Brother Tobias and am eagerly awaiting his view on my find and it's relevance to him (if there is any).......

There can be many delights and mysteries in the second hand bookshop........my mum always gets so excited in such an establishment that she immediately needs the toilet.

Sadly my blog name is merely derived from my main web site's name and how I came by that I have no idea. Sometimes inspiration hits you with a bolt of lightning, other times it just clips you around the ear with a wet fish...

Villager - does she take some books with her?

Steve - Indeedy, I soften wish I ahd come up with something much more inspiring!

hello there - thought you'd like to know that *Through a glass darkly* is the title of a Victorian poem - by someone called Arthur Clough. I want to know why he calls himself Brother Tobias - and it's from his blog that I jumped to yours - so I'm not just being cheeky at his expense.

I love second-hand bookshops and that is one of the things I miss about being an expat in France. My name - I just thought it had a silly French twist - I don't even like those specific cakes

I too love secondhand book shops. I hadn't heard of that book - I hope it lives up to its sub-heading! Alas, after naming my blog I found that there are several others with the same name; not so original!

I have offered alternative explanations on my blog in your honour. The least interesting is the correct one.

Frenchy - can I call you that? Anyway, thanks heaps for dropping by! I love the freedom of this international communication, and have to confess to "lurking" at your blog before now. So pleased yu commented. I have also wndered about the "Brother" bit...

Brother T- Hm. I dunno, loved all the explanations. However, my fav was number 2....

Poet - Well, my school teachers always claimed I would be more the ring leader than easily lead....

I have one blogger friend on my blogroll who changes her name with alarming regularity - but we always find her!

I think mine is a bit obvious! I should have thought of something more original, but at the time, I don't think I even thought I would really blog. Changing it now would feel odd...

Love the cover on that book.
I might do a post about the blog name... at times those treats are anything but...

Violet - haha, does is she trying to hide from you or just having fun? Sounds like a lot of effort, I'm too lazy for that.

Justme - I can't imagine you with any other name now!

Meggie - Oh yes, I would be very keen to hear your take on this!
