After the rain and the power cut

Sometimes you just HAVE to have your fish and chips by candle-light. They taste much better, don't you think?
And, after the rain and general dullness that can be winter days - we will get this! The wonderful cheery Kowhai blooms. I know I'm posting this photo (from our own garden) early but on the way home from work last night I swear I saw some pink blossoms on a few trees and that means spring is coming! Oh yeah, I love spring. Actually, I enjoy having four seasons, even tho' I have whinged about the cold before now, I do love having the chance to sweat, shiver, and all the bits inbetween.
What's it like at your house now, is it summer or winter? Which do you prefer?
At this time of year it's easy to run on empty, the promise of spring almost at the door keeps me going!

It is too bloody hot.
Sorry --- we have been waiting for the hot and humid summer to begin since June. But I rather liked the mild weather we had before the mercury hit 39C. I love fall/autumn best. I want some of that crisp air. I'm melting. I need another popsicle.

Enjoy the heat, Violet! We have sunshine today for the first time in what feels like AGES and altho' it isn't warm it is welcome. And I get to take the Scowly Teen iceskating tonight, more shivering.

hello sag, it's summer here in new england, soon to wind down into fall, when the leaves become all those oranges and reds and yellows. new england is known for its fall folliage--it is stunning.

thank you for your visits to my blog. you are catching me at a serious time in my writing, a chapter that should be subtitled,
'poor me' :)

Hey Saj, Just stopping by before I stagger off to bed (no, not drunk, just tired!) We often get spectacular power-outages here in the winter--ice storm ones that are fun for about the first half hour but miserable as the darkness sets in and the teeth start to chatter. But today we had the traditional one day of the summer when it gets so hot that the house doesn't cool down at night. Usually it's pleasant by 7 or 8 pm but it's 2 a.m. now and just getting comfortable. Which is what I'm about to do...go get comfortable. (no, no, no, Saj--nothing at all to do with Southern Comfort!) ;-}

(My wv is "buscom"...I think it means "bosomy.")

I prefer early summer - when it's not so hot that you sweat a river every time you move. Winter is great for a couple of weeks but then wears me down.

In the winter I yearn for the summer.

Until I remember that in the summer I yearn for the winter.

Like you, I like the seasons. I would hate to live somewhere that didn't have them.

It would seem so featureless.

Oh yeah, and I never get tired of cranking up JB's "Running on Empty" on my CD player! Ironically, it energizes me and makes me feel like kickin' ass.

I still find it strange to be reading about you getting ready for Spring. I'll never get my head round this whole Southern Hemisphere thing...

Kj - I have heard that New England is beautiful! I love the sound of it anyway; I am really enjoying your blog and I'm sure there is light at the end of the tunnel (and it won't be a train!)

Louciao - I am honoured indeed that at 2am you came to visit me! Normally I would expect a few stones hurled against the glass to wake me and a bawdy rendition of What shall we do with the drunken sailor" to boot, but since you've been (ahem) working I'll let you off just this once!
Ice storms sound very exotic, I'd like to experience something like that just so I can say I have!! Maybe you, me and Mr Browne will find ourselves together one day...in a snow storm, with ice for a martini...

Steve - having experienced a British winter I know where you're coming from on being worn down!

AWB - I agree, "featureless" is just the right word.

Rol - I know, it's like the time zone thing too I reckon...talking to someone on Friday when where they are it's Saturday. Weird.

I've never even heard of a kowhai (all those nature shows somehow let me down). It's late summer here in Oregon, USA, and I'm none to happy about the coming of the short gray days and the long black nights.

Hello wise Snowbrush! Thanks for visiting all the way from Oregon, I hope you'll come back. Maybe you can have a southern hemisphere spring and summer by visiting me here! :-)
