Confusing rules!

A few weeks ago a friend and I toddled out for a girl's night out. We went to a great wee pub and sat by the fire, red wine and laughter to boot! On our way to the taxi rank we stumbled across these signs. The sign above on the footpath (or pavement for my 'merican friends) in the way that store owners have - you know, you trip over them if you're not careful. Suffice to say, we were careful!

And then directly opposite, see the way the arrows are pointing? Yes? Good, well on the door was THIS sign:-
I'm wondering what could possibly constitue a reasonable standard of dress in this place!
Now you probably thinking "Why does that girl even have her camera with her on a night out? What kind of pervert is she?" Well, I always have my camera. I do live in fear of leaving it somewhere or having to thump someone over the head with my hand bag and breaking the camera in the process, but so far so good!
So while you're getting over your confusion, here's one of my all time favourites, guaranteed to get people singing along everytime (well, at our house anyway).
Enjoy!

Surely a Reasonable Standard of Undress is Required would be more fitting? Or should that be ill-fitting?

Steve - perplexing isn't it! Puts a whole new spin on the term cocktail dress anyway!

'Hot Nude Strip Tease' suggests a display of waxing.

Mind you I suppose there's a perversion for every pervert - probably even websites catering for girls who take cameras everywhere!

(I think you'll find it's we Brits who call them 'pavements' whilst the Americans term them 'sidewalks.') But what do you expect from a race who walk around in 'pants'? That's 'knickers' to you!

Now what's the matter with walking around in pants ??? What I want to know is what Amanda was doing out walking around the redlight district so late at night... and taking pictures too !!! Lucky burly bouncer didn't bounce your camera off the ground once or twice... So, when will you be posting the pix from inside these joints ??? Purely to satisfy scientific social studies curiosity of course...

Laura - hi there! I am off to google a website for girls who take cameras everywhere! Usually when someone says "knickers to you" they're none too happy! :-)

Owen - re "pants" would take too long and too many jars to explain. We didn't actually see a bouncer, and oddly we weren't in the redlight district, we were opposite the town library!!

Must be a classy joint if it's got standards to maintain. They liklely have Fashion Police manning the door instead of bouncers. Zero tolerance for Birkenstocks!

Louciao - I had to google Birkenstocks and yes I agree, most likely. Maybe I should get some, maybe flat would be easier to control on a gal's night out....I sometimes get home and the husband laughs at me for having round shoes on!!

Lynne with an e said...

Round shoes? What's wrong with round shoes? Is that a kiwi expression meaning something else? Is it like being pie-eyed?

I, by the way, own two pairs of Birks...one pair's fake, though. The real ones are painted like camouflage. Handy for when I'm in the jungle. They are truly hideous...but they were on sale. You can borrow them when we go out together, if you like.

Loucaio - yes, thats exactly what round shoes means! I wonder how you picked up on that so quickly!! Sounds like your shoes will go nicely with my fake beard - bought on sale and you never know when you might need one! My WV sounds like a boozey Italian ice cream - ellati

Lynne with an e said...

A fake beard! Do you carry that in your purse all the time, like your camera? I never realized I might need one.

ellati. haha! It has the same effect on me as "embiggen" does on you! I think "ellati" is actually Italian for round shoes.

Loucaio - fake beard and camouflage shoes, you never know when you might need either of them!

When I read the 'hot nude strip' one I immediately thought of 'hot wax'

Don't ask me why but a strange kinky image came into my mind.

Now see what mischief has been going on here, and I can't be blamed for any of it... jeez Louise ! If you two ever get together I can see there's going to be trouble and big round shoes and fake beards and camouflage and sleeping on benches in public places and what not. And jeepers, if that is the public library neighborhood, I wonder what the red light district looks like ?!? (You don't have to answer that)
;-D

Yes, you should have always your camera with you. I missed some great shots because I left it home.

AWB - I'm tempted to ask you why.....

Owen - I know, that would be a wild day out with Lou and no mistake. You could be our sober driver!

Adrian - yep, it's something you really only forget once eh!

Well, that really was a play on words (or should I say on letters?!): ROAR can't be too reasonable now, could it? Rip Off All Raiment!
Soon it will be fall here and then we can sip wine by the fire . . . we're now still in the cold-beer-on-ice stage!
Sam Cooke was delicious! Thank you!
Say, Sajit, have you heard of a Kathryn McPhee of New Zealand? She just won second place in the static apnea event in the World Freediver's Competition in Denmark? My niece Yessica (Jessica) Wilson came in third and my sister fourth! It really would be a small world if you would have heard of her. Love xxox

I too, had to Google Birkenstocks...
Sam Cooke, he was a great voice back in the day, which I suspect was before yours, really Amanda?
When we lived in Chch there really was not a 'red light district'. Really 'back in the day' Huh!
Does anyone remember the Atami Bathhouse?.. email me.

Dear Amanda, Just for info and edification, I've just posted a few photos in response to your last Tuesday Tipple photo of the "lady" passed out in public... and if you do make it over there, you might want to peruse the comments on the post just below, Pairing Off, as Lynne was there and your name came up... well, if you have a second of course, I know your busy getting ready for the next Tuesday Tipple, no doubt warming up with a right good Sunday Tipple ! I know it's hard to walk on round shoes and all, but give it a try...

Margaret - hello and welcome back. Sorry, had to "Google" Kathryn as well. Sounds like your sister is doing well tho eh?

Meggie - yes, Sam was before my time but I have a great liking of the old Soul stuff and naturally Sam's the man for that! As for the Atami Bath house - its still there m'dear, do you have a juicy story to tell???

Owen - Oh deary me, OK I shall brave a visit to your place...I was away for the weekend.

AWB - oh no, now you have my over-ripe imagination working!

Came over via Owen's blog.
This is such a great song. At the end of the video they run the message "Thanks for listening."
Um, no problem. None whatsoever!

Lydia, thanks so much for visiting. I love that song, he could sing me to sleep everynight and I doubt I'd get sick of hearing him!
