Friday Fotos

I took the above photo round the back of a small lake on the way home from the West Coast the other week. Yes, have played with it to be in black and white but it was raining very hard, bucketing down (as only it can on the 'coast) and the result has been a moody, sulky tree scene! I love it, what do you think? If I can find the original photo I will post that so you can decide for your very grwon-up-selves which one you like best.
Further back along the road, and before the heavens opned up, we were passing by an old petrol station, these vehicles look like they may have given up all hope of having their tanks filled. I resisted the urge to black n white them, the rustic (see what I did there? LOL) colouring somehow adds to their abject misery methinks! About 10 feet on the other side of these cars is another long line of elderly gentlemen vehciles, all lined up with nowhere to go, which I'll post next if you're all good kids and play nicely.

Hi KJ - I woke up this morning and ecided I had to get out more...and what easier way than to Blog-travel! I decided that I would visit whoever commented first after me on Owen's blog! Crazy but true. Glad you called over but i warn you things can get a bit rowdy here sometimes. We're all blaming each other but I think it's mostly Owen's fault....

Hi Saj: I do like your black and white tinkering. Artistic. Pleasing in itself as a photos but would also translate well as a drawing or a stitchery. I also like the texture of it, as well as the forms and those branches scratching against the sky. And if it was bucketing rain, I think you made a good choice to portray it in b&w.

And I love those old cars! I think one might be a Morris Minor, but I'm hopeless at identifying cars. The Morris is one of my faves, though. We had one when I was a kid and I could stretch out full length for a sleep across the back seat if we were out late.

You know you're going to cause Owen to start galumphing around when he sees those rust-buckets, and overheating and blowing his gaskets. In preparation for it, you'd best pour yourself a drink (if you haven't already done so).

Hi Louciao - yes, you're right about that Morris Minor...I have one too in my back yard but it is better looking than the one in this photo! You must have either been young or short to be able to stretch out across the back seat for asleep!
Thanks for your kind words about the spooky tree photo, I have to say I really like that one. I get a bit obsessed with trees!
As for Owen, hm it could be dangerous if he calls in with his plugs all sparking and blowing his horn...you're right, best get myself a drink. It's my baby's 12th birthday today anyway...

The tree scene is amazing. Nothing wrong with tweaking it either - all part of the art as far as I'm concerned and you've done it so well.

Steve - aw thanks very much! I 'charcoaled' it actually, I prefer straight black and white usually but am experimenting. (The Scowly Teen is laughing at my WV - retard!)

The first one looks like something out of a David Lynch film. The second, from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Nice work!

I love those old cars! Don't they look like they gave faces all in a row? (Maybe that's just me?)
I feel like I want to clean them up and give them a bit of love!

Rol - thanks for that, interstingly enough we briefly stopped at an old pub near those cars and it felt a bit Chainsaw-ish...people staring at us and watching. I guess 2 blonde 'city-slickery' gals must have been a bit out of the ordinary for a Tuesday!

Penelope - hi and thanks for visiting! I agree, especially the old truck - I reckon he looks a bit more animated than the others.

Those trees are magnificent.

They look as though they are reaching for the sky in some over dramatic arty posing way.

A sort of modern ballet.

My dad had a Morris Minor. An estate with wood. Great car. I remember 'Dame Edna' describing them as an 'Elizabethan half-timbered' car. That still maes me laugh.

AWB - thanks for your kind words! Ah good ol' Dame Edna, I had forgotten about that comment. I learned to drive in my mum's Morris Minor and I think thats why I had to buy mine when I saw her!

Dearest Amanda, my ears have been whistling and ringing shrilly all these past few days, now I see why !!! Ahhh yes, I accept total responsibility... for anything and everything, just call me Mr Guilty !!! Mr Rowdy, Mr Rusty !!!

Beautiful black and white of the trees, and the old RUSTIC cars (groan, wince, moan, whine, wine !) are quite the logical byproduct of your well and truly corroded mind !

Now, before I forget, I came over here to suggest you go very quickly to take a look at the Happy Hour post right 'ere :

No question about it, Lola is obviously a committed drinker of fine cocktails, you will have to try this recipe, eh ?!?

So sorry to have taken a bit of time to get here, but better late than never... have been having absolutely too much fun on vacation as a lucky sod... just haven't been in front of the PC... but have not disappeared off the fact of the earth either...

Excellent car photo there... jeez, yer tryin' to tempt me to come out to ruddy old New Zealand, ain't ya ?! :-D

Owen - good to see you here! I had a peek at that blog you referred me too...bueno indeed. I'm hooked. There are Italians on my husband's side of the famdamly andI'll visit that blog from now on. Thanks for that!

As for the ol' rust buckets, there's plenty more where they came from.....
