Tuesday Tipple

You will be thrilled to know that instead of encouraging you all to imbibe, I shall also be encouraging you to EAT something nice and nibbly to go with the Tipple.

I have a friend who works in an area concerning alcohol consumption rules and regs and I am sure she will be delighted with this innovation.

So, let's get crazy today. Let's have a.....

KAMIKAZE

ice cubes
25 ml Vodka
25 ml Cointreau
25 ml lime juice cordial (if you like a really sour drink, just use real lime juice)

Put ice in a small tumbler and pour over the Vodka, Cointreau and lime juice cordial. Stir well and have a seat - then drink up!

Have some Devilled Brazils to go with it.

225g brazil nuts
50g butter
10ml olive oil or corn oil
5 ml each dry mustard and paprika
5 ml each of celery salt and garlic salt.

Slice nuts fairly thickly (hard to slice 'em think anyway), fry gently in butter and oil for 3-4 minutes or until a pale golden colour turning them often. remove from pan, drain, and sprinkle with seasonings. Serve hot or cold 0- they're delicious either way!

And because I'm feeling mellow,  we can cruise along with Otis! (Fill me up, Bar Keep!)

Otis and devilled brazils - I've died and gone to heavan.

Nibbly when you're tiddly - that has a certain symmetry to it.

Owen said...

Yes, I think Marginalia is right... symmetry...

Nibble and tipple
Tipple and nibble
Tipple and tipple
Nibble and nibble...

Sounds like an old Frank Zappa song from long ago and far away, but that is neither here nor there.

Those nuts sound devilishly delicious. Perhaps this is what that song "Friend of the Devil" was about ???

Can't believe it's Tuesday already.... aaarrrrrrgggghhhhh... I have to go back to work on Tuesday. But here it's only just past midnight... still get to sleep for about 8 hours, to sleep off all this tippling, and nibbling...

Can you just let us know you're OK, Amanda. I have just woken up to the news of the earthquake and my immediate thoughts were for you and your family. Can't imagine how frightening it is there at the moment.
Thinking of you xxx

Food along with the booze? Glad to see you're developing a health consciousness...

Hello Amanda - Likewise to Selina, we are just waking to the news over here of the appauling earthquake and human tragedy in Christchurch.

Our collective thoughts are with you, your family, friends and the wider community of Christchurch at this time.

We hope to goodness that you and your family are ok, and look forward to reading some sort of confirmation posting on your blog here, when you are in a position to do so. Much love - Phil & family - UK. xx

Oh No. I just read the comments and read that you have had another bad earthquake. I hope you, your family, and friends are safe. My heart and prayers go out to all of you and your community. I'll keep checking back as I'm looking forward to hearing that you and your family are safe.

What can I say? Just hope everyone is ok.

Am so glad that you are all safe. But so sorry about your house - and your city.

Owen said...

Thinking an abundance of warm thoughts in your direction... hope you'll be able to let us know how you are faring soon.

I haven't heard anything more from my usually busy texting friend the
Sagittarian. Not enjoying the silence, but am sure she's safe, busy with family and house, probably without power or water, and very very busy helping people around her.

Meggie said...

I hope you and yours are all ok. We are watching with horror, at what has happened to our 'hometown'.

Amanda, so worried for you and yours, and glad to hear that you are okay. It's hard to imagine the difficulties you are all facing in the aftermath - we are all thinking of you.

Checking here every day for news... hoping you are all OK.

I have exchanged some txts with Ms S. they have access to water and are doing ok. They have found a couple of cases of red wine, unbroken. So you know, with news like that we know they're fine right??!! She says big thanks for all the messages. Hxx

Bish Bosh Bash said...

Thank you Pixie - I won't say it's excellent news as such, but we are all delighted to learn that Ms Sag at least has her 'spirits up' so to speak!

That old phrase ‘Water to Wine’ seems to have some resonance right now. I don’t know about divine providence here, but let’s wish her and her family a few more crates of little miracles over the coming days and weeks.

Either way, I’ll lay good wine money that our ‘Sag’ will luxuriate in the taste and enjoyment of this particular undamaged hoard of vino, more than at any other time in her sommeliers’ experimenting to date. And so I’m going to have to raise her a glass to that, in full and moral support, without further ado.

Cheers Pixie...Really do appreciate your up dates as and when you can. Best wishes and much love to you all down there at this difficult and challenging time. Xx

P.S. If there are any specific ‘help funds’ being set up at your end that ‘Sag’ would appreciate the support of, you can always post the details here on her Blog.

I'll drink to that.

Hey Saggie, big hugs from Auckland, the whole country are behind you guys, we are following it closely on Tv, and on the net. My friends all made it safely through the quake, but we are praying for you guys that have to get your lives back together... Kia kaha, girl xx

Steve said...

God bless you, Pixie - great news that they're OK (and have access to wine).

Great to hear they are all okay. I never thought to check in the comments!! Thanks for letting everyone know and i hope they are restored to water and power as soon as possible.

Helen said...

today they'e excited about the delivery of a chemical loo. Sheesh. I hope I never get excited about such a thing. But imagine how much better it would be than a hole in the garden. Am feeling guilty for lazing about hanging out on the internet when there's so much to do, so far away. Hxx

Bish Bosh Bash said...

Well...here you go then -

In shared moral support with only good and respectful intentions intended, I have just placed our portaloo down the bottom of the garden and taped up our indoor toilet seats for the weekend.

It's a bit windy here tonight, but it's all in a good cause.

The best of wishes to them all in Canterbury tonight and beyond, and out heartfelt thoughts to those and their families who have been so tragically less fortunate these past few days in Christchurch.

Thanks once again Pixie. Have a better weekend down there.

Hope to see you back in action soon.

Happy to be hearing, through "channels" that you're okay.

Owen said...

Red wine and a loo ?

Things can only be looking up now ?

Have been watching the news daily hoping for a glimpse of you...

And a special wish for the cats and rabbits as well, who must have been equally terrified.

Steve said...

I second Owen's good wishes for the cats and rabbits. I had high hopes for that Hutch as Amanda well knows.

Monday evening here in France, must already be Tuesday in NZ.

One week ago.

The longest week.

Dearest Saj, as you are clearly not able to light up these pages as usual, for reasons entirely understandable, just half a city in ruins, I would like to hold up a Tuesday Tipple to you and your family and your town. A simple tipple, nothing fancy.

Here's hoping the road back from this nightmare will not be too terribly long. Here's hoping the above reports are right, that you and the Stud and the kids are all ok, physically intact. We heard the house was a loss, here's hoping you can salvage the bits that matter most to you, and will soon have new walls around you, walls built to resist. Here's simply hoping.

Words are sometimes so horribly inadequate. This is one of those times. So here is a bit of music too, for you... Helplessly Hoping... gasping at glimpses... wordlessly watching... he worries... we are for each other...

Thinking about you, your family and community. I am so terribly sorry about your house, but as long as you are safe, which it seems you are, that is the most important thing. Will continue checking back hoping to hear from you soon.
