Random shots after the quake

Our hearts go out to those in Japan after the devastatiing earthquake and Tsunami - makes you wonder whats going on with those tectonic plates!

This wee daisy just managed to keep it's head above the liquefaction in our yard - in some places it was 6 inches deep. And very stinky.

The forces of nature were so strong on 22 February 2011 that not only did they topple buildings, they also smashed up the cemeteries, here you can see several headstones that have come to grief.

One of the telephone providers has made all local and some international calls from phone boxes free. This guy looks to be settling in for a long chat...

And fearless Ernie takes a well deserved break from post-quake duties. He's chillaxin' in the one bit of yard that escaped too much silt and liquefaction.

We're still getting more than enouogh aftershocks, the house shakes when large trucks rumble past, but we had some help from the Victorian police a few days ago and they helped us shovel out debris and cart bricks to a waiting skip to be taken away so the place looks much tidier...well, sort of. Managed to get them to pose with our Police Box...(which has taken on a new life temporarily, might post about that later) in the meantime, keep safe, keep your loved ones in your hearts and send good vibes to Japan. xx

It seems so unimaginable to us in the UK.

Our 'earthquakes' take the form of faint quivers that most people don't notice.

Must make you look at things rather differently.

Really glad you are OK.

PS; the word verication was 'mends'; very apt.

What is the earth trying to tell us?? It's one disaster after another! But we do survive... the daisy head popping out of all that guck and Ernie on his back basically having a good time... My sister in Hawaii said their beaches only got about 6 meter waves. But NZ and now Japan have been tossed about like tinker toys! Saj, I'm so glad you're ok, have electricity, etc. Please take care. Love

That first picture is so very poignant.

Looks like we'll all be reeling before long... even the dead in their graves can't lie easy.

That daisy is a survivor.

Thinking of you all... Ernie obviously knows how to deal with stress... just ignore it.

WV = sergzmul, as in : "I had to borrow Serg'zmul and a mule cart today because there was no gas for the car to be found"...

‘Hear Hear’ and ‘Ditto’ all your sentiments for all the families and victims of the tragedy that’s still unfolding in Japan right now Saj. And fair play to you and your fellow compatriots there for continuing to display such stoic spirit amid all that damage and disruption.

Thanks for the photos. Agree with ‘Stickup’ too. Great one of the guy in the phone box by the way. Best wishes for a better Sunday to all of you in Christchurch. xx

I was a bit anxious when I first saw that picture of Ernie, before I had a chance to read that he was just "chillaxin" !!
Good wishes continue from me to you and, as you say to the people of Japan as those pictures look terrifying

That daisy poking out of the muck is a perfect
symbol of tenacity, hope, strength and survival. That's just such a great picture, Saj. And I'm so glad to see dear Ernie doing his thing! That's great you had people to help with (some of) the clean up of your place. Good to see your funny bone didn't get broken or bruised with the quakering and your sense of humour is still intact. Most of all, wonderful to have word from you. I hope your girls are holding up well. What a trial it all must be. Love and hugs to you.
