27 September 2008

Here I am aged 9. My dad took this photo. My Dad died tonight.

13 years ago tonight at 10.40pm my best friend, my mentor, my everything died.

Cancer - you arse. I hate you. Even more because you have given me strength. I will use it against you. Be warned.

However. I have so much to thank Dad for. He was very gregarious. Heck, he was so wonderful that my Mumn has since remarried - to one of his mates, she loved being married soooo much that she was not hesitant to do it again. And I bless them both for that...that is fine. I think they have prolonged the lifespan of both of them. Many children then have more time with their families, even tho' you may think that as "grown ups" we don't need it.

I love and miss my Dad more than words can say.

I count my blessings every day that my mum and dad are still around and by good fortune so is my granddad. Will have a drink today in your dad's honour - never met him obviously but if you say he was a great bloke that's enough for me.

Thanks, Steve. The Stud hasn't lost anyone "close". Even tho' he raises a whiskey....your thoughts mean heaps. Thanks. xx

My dad died on his 90th birthday 2 years ago (Sept 29). So I'll raise a glass two times to both men in their honour and respect for battling cancer.

Antipo - thank you m'dear! I knew I could count on you for a wine or three.

I will have one for your Dad too!
My father, who I hardly knew, died when he was 72. He was buried on his 73rd Birthday. I cried a river, because he was gone forever...

Very moving posting Amanda, but I'm afraid I did get a bit confused. Was this your own father you are writing about or someone else's?

Hi Poet, I can see where the confusion crept in! Sorry. Was talking about my own Dad, and one should never underestimate the power of a comma in the right place!

Ah, it all makes sense now.

Love it!
