It's my BIRTHDAY and I'll cry if I want to....

What a week thus far.

Sunday got a call from my boss to let me know that a very good workmate of ours had suddenly passed away! He went to bed Saturday night and "woke up dead" as we say over here. I'm gutted cos I really liked and respected him.

And today, well, shucks it's my birthday, but these songs are for Paul, in my blog-rememberance.

Paul was a Union man all his life, and he and I shared a similar sense of hunour. He also had a great love of old stuff, like old books and last time he was here he had bought a very old walking stick which he carried bravely onto the plane looking for all intents and purposes a mafia hit man with the stick all wrapped up under his arm. I'll miss you very much, Paul, RIP and we'll see you at the big rally in the sky.

Really sorry to hear about your mate - not the kind of news you welcome at any time let alone on your birthday. Despite the news know that some very warm birthday wishes are flying their way over to you from the UK - have a wonderful day.

Steve, thanks buddy. I am so sorry I haven't visited your blog lately, I've been away with work and then all this. However, I'll drop by and comment (as is my wont!) and thanks for the good wishes.

Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great one - although it's the wrong end of the week really.

Sorry to hear about your friend and colleague. It happened to colleagues of mine occasionally. Apart from missing them, it feels as if they have been robbed of the retirement they should have enjoyed. Almost as if their employers were responsible, as they escaped having to pay a full pension.

Sorry to hear about your friend and never a good thing to have happen, but especially bad on your birthday.

Best wishes for your birthday nonetheless.

Sending Birthday thoughts your way.

Removed the last post because there were so many typos!
I am srry to hear about your friend. It is always sad and also slightly scary when work colleagues die 'before their time.' I work full time for a Union and it seems that a lot of us die young.....
Hoping that you had a good birthday anyway. Belated Birthday Greetings! x

Happy birthday, Saggy! I am sorry that you received bad news on your day.

It is horrible when someone dies who you do not expect to do so - if you know what I mean. It kind of stops you in your tracks for a bit.

Hope you managed to have a good birthday despite that. If not, you'll just have to celebrate on another day as well.

Sad to hear of this guy's passing.

We tend to forget that death awaits us all. At least from this level of consciousness.

Hi everyone, thanks very much for the birthday wishes and the condolences. I am still in a bit of shock I think!

BT - haha, I like that theory and I suspect you're right!

Mike - thanks!

Justme...wow, we BOTH work for a Union! We must swap horror stories :-)

RB - yeah, I managed to "tie a few on" and felt like shit on a stick all day yesterday!! So much for being older AND wiser eh!

Violet - many thanks. Certainly felt older the day AFTER my birthday...hehehe

Villager - Indeed. I try not to think too much about it most days but I know what you mean.

Sad for those left behind, with no chance for farewell.
But hell, at the end of the day, what a great way to die!
Happy Birthday, Amanda.

Meggie - Yes, if you're gonna go, you might as well go when you're not awake! Thanks for the birthday wishes.
