Down 'the pier'

The other night I went in search of the moon. How hard could that be, I hear you utter. Well, as it turns out - tricky. Someone must have knicked it (scroll to Shoot the Moon post).

I left my house around almost dusk, the sky was turning into that turquoise blue with orange-tinged edges and some stars were starting to wink at me. "Go to the beach, find the moon" they taunted. So I went. Only 15 minutes away I found myself down at the wayters edge, and the sky had turned inky black. Clouds.

So, I made the best of a bad situation and took some photos of our Pier. I didn't know that at night it is lit up, and that the lights change colours.

I was almost the only person around (there was a guy who darted into the public loos), the sound of the waves was the oinly sound to be heard. Magical.

In the second photo you can see how the lights changed, I prefer the first one myself. The Scowly Teen wants to come with me on another night and see what she can capture (altho' I suspect a trip to KFC or Burger King might also be demanded).

Anyone else want to come with me on a night shoot?

Sure... you bet, will be right there, 'cos I'm sure a night shoot would almost certainly have to involve some tippling on the beach around a bonfire... right ??? But if the moon is up, well, that's a bonus... am always game for a full moon ramble...

And that's quite a pier, looks more like a bridge heading out into the purple dark...

Guess I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised to hear that KFC and Burger King are popular down under... Isn't there somewhere that serves grilled mutton ? Is it true that there are more sheep than people in NZ ??? Or is that a misconception?

Oh, and meant to ask you if Burt Munro is well known there on South Island ??? Had never heard of him, but saw some of the movie about him the other day, while wolfing a bowl of cereal before running off to work... Anthony Hopkins seemed to be fine in the role...

Hmmm, wonder what's taking that sister Lynne so long to get here... guess she's not riding Burt's Indian...

I'm in for a night shoot! As long as we can bring some peach mhyrr along. That should add another dimension to the mix. Thanks for the link!

Your pier shots are amazing. Those lights are fantastic. Lucky you, so close to the beach. I sometimes find myself wishing I still were. Enjoy!

i love this sag! that purple is amazing. and you've crafted quite a tale in the telling too.

i am most partial to sunrise--the magic quiet time when every still thing is at peace but i could easily get into this beauty.

Very moody photos.

(Have you heard the Jeff Buckely version of "Hallejuiah?")

Owen- you're onto it there! Bonfire and some liquid cheer. As for burt, yep we all heard of him. I thought the movie was ok but Mr H didn't have the accent right really (why would he) and reminded me a of a guy I used to work with who thought he had a great Welsh accent but really he sounded like he was doing a bad Indian impersonation!

Stick Up - Great, I was sure you would be up for a trip. I've got the Peach stuff packed and just waiting for Owen to tie his shoe laces...

kj- Yes, I know what you mean about sunrise...such a promising time of day don't you think?

K-welcome! Am off to You Tube to check that out, hadn't heard Jeff's version.

I'm up for it certainly, moon or no moon. Especially if fast food is up for grabs. Personally I'd rather get a pizza but a burger will be fine. What time are you picking me up?

Steve - actually, we could hang out at my place and have REAL pizza from our woodfired oven? We make our own pizza base and sauce...will pick you up at half past!

Oh yes, me please. Pretty please. I'll carry all your equipment and I won't dart into the loos or demand to go to Burger King.

Love the photos. I prefer the first too. Not that I know anything about photography but I know what I like.

It's nearly wine o'clock here. Care to join me?

Sorry I'm so late. Had trouble getting my motor cycle started. But I guess if you're waiting for Owen to tie his shoelaces, esp. after a few of your peachy health drinks, you're still here. Any homemade pizza left?

Those pier shots are almost surreal! Quite magical. And I love how you've colour-coordinated Rufus to go with the scene.
