I know everyone else says this, but your photos are great. I haven't seen these volcanoes(though I drove that way in the dark t'other night), but it has occurred to me seeing the innocent liquefaction volcanoes along the side of the Northern Motorway, that if they hadn't caused so much grievous mess and destruction, we might treat them as another natural wonder to go out and picnic beside.

They look strangely prehistoric... such a beautiful but brooding landscape.

Well you really baffled me with this one, Saj. First I thought it was just a winter's day at the beach, then I noticed the label you supplied is "liquefaction volcanoes." So I looked them up online and found a couple of videos on YouTube and it seems such beach scenes have beeen created on the very streets of Christchurch. I can only hope you have a stylish pair of rubber boots to get you through. And that your liquor cabinet (or cardboard box as the case may be) is kept faithfully restocked.

Jeneane-thank you, you're very kind! I know what you mean about the picnic spot, if the Estuary didn't smell so bad at low tide I think we would have stayed there a bit longer! :-)

Steve- You've got to see if to believe it, mate. Come on down!!

Louciao-The 'volcanoe' we had in our backyard on the day of the 13 June quakes were amazing, almost like geysers the way they were spurting water...enthralling and daunting at one go! It sure was a mess to clean up and I was very glad that my 'gummies' (as in gumboots) were handy. The booze box is always at the ready...follow Steve and come on down! :-)
