Old and New

I took this photo about 17 years ago, my mum and my niece. My favourite part of the photo? My nieces wee hand grasping at my Mum's neck.
This niece is the one who made time speed up for me, until she was born time seemed to drift along days felt like days and a week was a week nothing more or less and then suddenly our family this wee 'marker' of time and I realised the value of a day, a week or even a minute and how quickly they were all ticking past.

Now of course my own kids have added to that and with the passing of years (and friends) I'm starting to think I'll never get all the things done on my list. That doesn't mean I won't be trying to get through the list tho'. When I was 23 a c,lose friend died of a vicious rare breast cancer. I know she will never get through her list and in some ways I feel obliged to make the most of my own time in honour of those friends and family who have had their's cut short. Is that odd? I still do things I want to do, I'm not trying to live those lives as well but it makes me even more keen to not waste time.

Do you have a list of things to do, you know "Bucket List" stuff or is your life like seaweed - drifting in and out with the tide, going with the flow?

Hi Saj! These days I find I have to give myself appointments in order to accomplish life--yoga, hair, Mass, book club, kids over for Sunday dinner, even a piano lesson once a week with the teacher coming to my house--so that makes two days a week I have to "fine tune" my housework! Other chores inbetween. But I feel happy, and my feet still jump out of bed every morning... xxox

Sorry, Saj! It asked for my WV twice, and then I appeared twice! Do you know how to delete one of them?
I wanted also to say how elegant your Mom looks and what a sweet photo that is. Also, the Pink Floyd number was very a propos! xxox

Such a sweet photo! So much love emanating between them.

I have only recently realized how much of a drifting, go-with-the-flow sort of life I've led. Alas, there's no going back now to straighten out my path, and the hole I've allowed to be dug around myself is rather deep, I'm afraid. Trying to practice gratitude and acceptance and not freak out are my biggest goals of late.

Beautiful photo and beautiful couple of paragraphs... time is flying ever faster. Sounds like you're dealing with it well though...

@Lynne, concerning the hole around you that's been dug... perhaps if we fill it up with enough wine you could swim across to the safe shores on the far side ? Or just swim while sipping ?

PS WV is "duckenun", as in what misbehaving children would say to one another in certain Catholic schools..."Watch out, you better duckenun is coming..."

I tell myself over and over that I want to live my life with energy and purpose, but I dunno, mostly I feel like I'm not doing it well. I'm with you though, the loss of friends and other good people makes me want to be deserving, to live well, seeing as I actually get to do it. I think I better move to chch huh?

I do have a kind of bucket list..Nothing like skydiving or deep sea scuba adventures, but finally getting round to my sisters place (she lives about 3000 miles away) or swimming in the Atlantic Ocean.
Then there are the more meaningful ones like being the bet mother/wife/grandmother (when the time comes) that I can be.
Great photo, so sweet :0)

Like you the older I get (especially now that I have kids too) the more determined I am to achieve a few dreams and goals. I've already done some which is great - got my degree, finished my novel (achieved that one yesterday!) but I also end up adding thing onto the list too. I think that is equally important. To keep wanting to do things.

Oh bother I missed the Tuesday Tipple. Not sure how that happened!

It is a lovely photo.

Yes, I do have a list. I mostly concentrate on short term projects these days - travel being the main one I suppose. The main thing I try to do is not get bogged down in humdrum chores - I make a big effort to ensure we have adventures and spend our times on things that are fun. And that includes the Tuesday Tipple so I clearly need not only a list but some sort of alarm to remind me not to miss things.

Glad you too are pursuing your dreams.

Bit of both for me. I like drifting as you can take the time to enjoy the view. Focussing on a 'must do' list channels things and sometimes I'm too frightened of missing out.

So I'll enjoy conecentrating on stuff like finishing my novel....like Steve..........and then taking time to watch the view.

Or maybe I'm just too bloody nosey about evrything and everybody.

kj - thanks, I was hoping people say "Sadge" rather than Sag...either would be accurate! :-) Great questions posed as well.

Margaret - Yep, priorities is really the key I think. Very nice compliment to my mum too, thanks!

Louciao - "trying not to freak out"..haha, almost a full time job for me! You seem to have the good bits sorted tho.

Owen - such nice words about my photo etc and considering how fantastic your own blog is I'm humbled by your comments! (gush gush)

Pixie - I do believe I have sent you some realestate books to peruse...

Princess L - ah, your sister must be very special, I'm sure you two will get together sometime soon! Thanks for your kind comments.

Steve - yeah, time in a bottle stuff eh?

RB - Hi Gina, yep short term is good, that way you're more likely to be able to cross things off your list I reckon! I cheat at shopping, I don't take a list with me...instead I write things down as I put 'em in the trolley - that way, I always get everything thats on the list! Simple.

AWB - I think its good to be nosey! I'm sure half of us wouldn't blog or comment on them if we weren't! ;-)

Villager - thanks so much!

My list is at least several lifetimes long.

Know what you mean about time passing anyway, even though I chose not to taunt myself by having little tykes running around reminding me!
