The morning after the night before

Well, aside from being hit in the eye with a flying champagne cork, I appear to have weathered yet another birthday.
The Stud outdid himself in the kitchen - we had Rare Roast beef and Butterflied Lamb with a wonderful gravy and mushrooms, as well as salad, fresh carrots from the garden, purple asparagus, new potatoes also from the garden, and couscous! Dessert was the double chocolate cake made by my two darling daughters, with whipped cream and ice cream.
I rather think that all that nosh contributed to my slow gait which in turn meant I was unable to dodge the flying corks with my usual agility.

The other morning I took this photo of one of our roses, I love the yellow ones and this one is El Dorado. It has the most wonderful scent and it looks so pretty after the rain (when the scent is even stronger).

Hey Sis ! Well happy sodding birthday to ya ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Now with all those corks that flew, there must be some champers left for my and Lynne who is pushing at the door right behind me, I can here her out there!!! So where is it already, jeez, a guy can get thirsty typing all these comments !

And so nice of the string band to drop in an play for you here... wow, if Jackson and Bruce didn't show up finally, at least these guys made it, looks like they could stomp and whoop and holler up a storm there...

Many happy returns Amanda, hope the flu is gone and you are ready to rollick on into another fine year of everything that's good in life...

PS WV is "dermists", as in, crikey dear, after that hard night of drinking champers, I can barely see because of the der mists in front of my eyes... or is it just foggy out today ???

Oh, happy birthday you lovely lady! Sounds like you were well and truly spoilt by the family and apart from the cork incident there seems no need for my nursing skills today!
Here's to another year of fun ....

Glad you had a wonderful birthday - please don't try to catch any more corks between your teeth (cos while you're doing that you can't be drinking)!

Oh happy birthday, Saggy! Sorry I missed it? Did you save some champers for me? I hope so.

I should have guessed your birthday was around this time, shouldn't I, given your name? Silly me!

Glad it was a fab day. Only a few weeks till Christmas now. You'll have to practise your ducking out of the way before then.

It sounds like you were well and truly fêted, as you deserve to be! "When the cork hits your eye and makes it look like pizza pie, that's amoré!"

Would you mind waving that gorgeous, heady-scented rose under BrOwen's nose? I'm afraid I trampled him on my way in to get to the left-overs first!

Owen, glad you made it thru all the corks and party dregs and thanks very much for the birthday wishes. Der mists were certainly slow in lifting!

Selina - thank you, and I assumed that whisky was the right medicine for anything and the eye isn't too bad today! (Altho' people stare oddly at me when talking to me...)

Steve - ah, good advice there, thanks! As a health & safety person I really expected better of myself. next year it's safety goggles on during the opening of champagne bottles.

RB - yes, the name is a bit of a give away. We're heading away for the weekend with friends so will do some 'duck' practice...

Louciao - Were you wearing those flash boots when trampling? if so, I fear a mere rose won't do...I will fetch some of the corks and try them under his nose!

Better up his nose than in your eye!

Belated birthday greetings... you're one day (and a couple of years) older than my blog. My blog will always look up to you as a big sister.

Happy happy Birthday Amanda!
Yellow roses are my absolute favourite, & the best one I ever had grew in my garden in Christchurch. It's perfume was to die for.
Sounds like lovely Birthday nosh!!

Louciao - I wonder how many corks we could get up there...

Rol - many thanks, and you're welcome to join the blogily! I like the idea of being someone's older bossy sister!!

Meggie - I think Christchurch is perfect for growing roses, all of ours seem to be doing really well.

Villager - Thanks, and yes I love that rose. I actually bought it as many years ago when my dad was ill we used to take him for walks round the Botanic Gardens in the city he was hospitalised in. One of our favourtie places was the Rose Garden, and we all loved this yellow one. When he died I just had to buy the rose.
