The sands of time are flying again

This year has sure been one heck of a ride. We've had personal tragedy, we've had earthquakes, mining disasters and floods...and you know what? We're still standing.

Thanks to all who have visited and commented and cared, much appreciated. I wish you all a happy, safe and wonderous New Year with new things round the corner and those you love close by.

Cheers everyone, here's a poem that we read at our nephew's funeral earlier this year (jhas it really been six months??) and I think you will find it an inspiration for the following years to come.

So, charge up your glasses (those regular visitors here will have theirs at the ready, for any newbies there's a glass on the bench, help yourself...) and singalong to this ol' late night favourite. Happy New year. xx

Here's raising a glass back at you, it was already in my hand, already full, full to overflowing.

We are so, so, so lucky to have this vibrant community around us, which spans oceans, time zones, fault lines, and brings us all together here in this odd space, this cyber space, but no matter how virtual the medium, the conversation is real, and the people out there spending a few minutes out of their busy days hunched over a keyboard to type out these messages, they bring it alive, in the most surprising of ways... the most wonderful of ways...

So Saj, adopted sisters, Lynne, Steve, here's a toast to you all, wishing you the best in 2011.

Now, pour another bottle down that fault crack, and tell old mother nature that enough is enough already... too much shaking been going on already...

Cheers !

You know, the name might have its roots in 'Eirine', which means Peace in Greek.
May time and life be kind to you all. And yes, a couple of bottles might be enough to get 'me going on', as ground does shake over here as well, yet mostly by bombs, luckily noone was hurt...let's see what wil happen next year.
Once again, all the very best for you all.

I've just figured it out...with the time zones thing, you're always a day ahead of me with the drinking! And, in this case, the new year. I see Owen's nipped in here early and is already pouring bottles down cracks...what's that he's saying...apparently we have another sister named Steve? Robert's already bombed...looks like I've got some catching up to do. Excellent choice to get Ry Cooder in for our New Year's party! I remember being at parties with my grandparents where they were all singing Good night Irene, as well as Auld Lang Syne. Well enough chatter, let's get on with the drinking and dancing. Here's to my fabulous adopted sister, whom I love for her wicked sense of humour, warm heart, sensitive soul, taste in music, courage, and generous pouring arm. Wishing you peace and joy for the new year.
Cheers! xoxo

Owen-ah dearest cyber Bro, good to see you here early while there's still a clean glass left! Are you calling my crack faulty?? (ahem)

Robert- Saw the news tonight about the explosion in Athens, I do hope you're not too near that stuff! Wishing you a wonderful New Year.

Louciao- and there you are, my favourite blog sister (that smear on the glass is from a toady hand, I had to retrieve it from you-know-who)...and yes, I'm wondering about our Sister Steve (I know I've called him Aunty before now however...)all the very best to you and yours m'dear. xx

Meggie-it's certainly gotta be better than the last 6 months of this one, surely! Have a happy one.

kj-thats great, we can start skipping on the count of three, mind you don't spill anything from your glass tho'! :-)

I've just got it. That is sand in the photo not, as I thought, mildew. Which had me imagining who was in the photo - in, got to be careful here, the 70's?

Must dash Rabbi Burns is at the door - Rosh Hashanah was late this year!

I look forward to another year of beautiful posts from you and snide comments from me.

And cheers to you and yours, Amanda. For still standing, for not losing your sense of humour or sense of humanity. For a blog that is always a joy to visit. And a rabbit hutch with my name on it. ;-)

Barry - my favourite snide ol' codger, yes it's sand, but the photo was taken earlier in the week. Its a photo of one of my Curtain Climbers with her friend, at our Sumner Beach! Its been a pleasure having you (ahem)!

Steve - The hutch has a new run as well so you can bring your cricket bat! Have a good one, thanks so much for being you. xx

It's been a rough year - here's to a better 2011. And I haven't made any resolutions but if I were to make one it would be to make time to visit here more often, like I used to, simply because here is always a good place to be.
Happy New Year my darling xx

Happy New Year Amanda!! Yes you've had your fair share of trials and tribulations haven't you....I agree with what the others say, good on you for getting through the year with such panache!! Here's to a much less turbulent (emotionally as well as physically) 2011 for you!

I love the poem by the way, there's a lot of truth in there. May well read it to my students!!

Love and big hugs all the way from cold Blighty,
Simon xx
PS Seen the DW Xmas Special yet?

Stick up- aw thank you, it's been great having you come and visit.

Selina-I'm lucky that you visit, I am sure we'd be good neighbours if it wasn't for that oceanic gap! Mind you, our livers might not survive...
