Today I am mixing up a 'winter warmer' for my blog buddies in the Northern Hemisphere, and because I have not been keeping very good records of what I have or have not posted before I hope this one will at least come as a surprise?
Gluhwein
1 bottle of red wine (unless you're inviting me as well in which case you had best double the whole recipe!)
3 tablespoons sugar
2 slices of lemon
2 slices of orange
1 cinnamon stick
Warm all ingredients in a saucepan until very hot. Do not boil (mustn't waste any of the alcohol)
Serve in a heated glass, and kick back and listen to this guy who has been around for years but never seemed to gain momentum outside of my lounge. I don't know why, as I think he's a great writer and has a nice gravelly voice....ladies and gents I give you "Mark Germino".....

Is that pronounced glue-wine or glu-wine? Not that it makes an differensh. Hic.
a crock pot works very well for this. very well, indeed. yes, it does.
thanks for the introduction to Mark G.
word verification is elfeyes.
Steve - it's hard to pronounce anything when you've got a mouthful of it eh?
Violet - oh, wonderful idea using a crock pot! Probably get more in it too. Love "elfeyes"!!
This sounds good. And even within my brewing abilities. But my crock pots waaaay too small, specially if you're stopping by. Maybe I can borrow my neighbour's big canning pot.
I liked that ruffino voice (goes down well with a Chianti,no?). An odd mix of sweet music with strings contrasted with the country-gravel-road twang, but it worked.
"At least he'll know he's worth fighting for..." somehow rings true.
Oh I always drink so much Gluhwein in December. It is sooo good. But somehow once Christmas is past I don't fancy it any more.
But obviously I don't want to be rude - so pass me cup please!
And the pronunciation is glue-vine!
Dear Saj... with Steve and Lynne coming around, I think you better make it four bottles ! (well that should produce enough that there will still be a little left for me, but you know I don't account for much... But thanks for thinking of us cold folks up north here, too kind, too kind... what is it down your way ? Still 25°C ???
:-)
Louciao- he's got a lovely voice I reckon, not 'perfect' if you know what I mean. I don't own a crock pot, but I do have a huge tub-like pot that we use to make stock in - I reckon that should sort us!
RB -see, we drink the stuff in June/July here! Or any other excuse really...here's your bucket!
Owen - I think we will use the stock pot I referred to above...we had 27 and 29 at the weekend, today aiming for 24. Shame I have to work rather than laze about on a deserted beach...
