Wet Wednesday

The rain has been burning down for the past few hours, as you can see the river at the end of the road is getting as full as a fat lady's sock.

I had to collect our Young Dr Whovian from school and she promptly puked over The Scowly Teen. Plus (of course) I have to go away for work tomorrow and not back til Friday night sometime. The roads are flooding and our yard is under water. The leaves from the trees are clogging everything they can.

Cue the happy clappy song "Oh happy day..."

There's nothing for it, my three friends will have to cheer me up this evening but only AFTER I return from taking The Scowly Teen to ice skating (roads permitting)....pop the top off one, sit down and stay awhile, Midge (our local Bluesman) will entertain us!

Tuesday Tipple

Hoorah, it's Tipple Tuesday again. I am starting to think I might have to start a petition to get more Tuesdays in the working week, what do you think?

It has been raining here for the past 48 hours and some parts of the country are flooding. This morning the weather boffins are gleefully announcing the approach of a weather bomb, with more rain and high winds. Oh joy, at least it's during the week and not at the weekend when the kidlets and sconegrabbers are home from school! But that does bring me back to the order of the day, the Tipple.

I'm mixing us all a nice Blue Day (partly because it is very nice and partly because it goes with the music clip...), so get your taste buds out and put the rollers in your hair....

1 and 1/2 ounces of Vodka
3/4 ounce Blue Curacao
1 dash orange bitters
Garnish - slice of orange

Shake all the ingredients together, with ice, in a shaker and strain into the glass.  I'd use a champagne or cocktail glass. Perch the orange slice on the rim (unless you've been 'testing' the drink thus far, in which case just eat it!)

Now then, get your dancing shoes on while we whip back into the 80s in down-town New Zealand....

Ernie busts a move

I know I keep banging on about it, but isn't he just the most handsome cat this side of the black stump?

Tuesday Tipple

I have had a fair bit of time to come up with something different for todays tipple! So, are you sitting comfortably?
Then let's begin...

We're using an eau de vie (translated as 'water of life' - not a bad assumption for some tipples, I reckon!)

An eau de vie is a clear, colorless fruit brandy that is produced by means of fermentation and double distillation. The fruit flavor is typically very light.

LOOPING

1 ounce raspberry eau de vie
2 tsp coconut flavoured liqueur
carbonated grapefruit drink (If you're in NZ I'd use Franks ruby red grapefruit for this)
Garnish - lemon wedge

Mix the raspberry eau de vie and coconut flavoured liqueur together, with ice cubes, in a high ball glass. Top up with the grapefruit drink and stir briefly.

Perch the lemon wedge on the edge of the glass!

Quaff, while listening to this fabulous track from two of my favourite artists, Willie Dixon and Koko Taylor! I actually have this song by Long John Baldry and it is fab as well.

Monday, Monday

An abandoned fixer-upper, on main road.

Sometimes I almost feel like heading away to the land, somewhere quiet yet with easy access to a still (of course); this particular 'castle' wasn't very far from a wee town in the middle of nowhere. I wonder what on earth made the people of the past decide to drop their roots down in that spot. There is nothing of note there!

Signs of the times

You can find interesting signs if you take the time to look (and take your camera everywhere!)

Black and white photos

I have been away travelling in the far north of our Islands - it has been great but tiring. Of course, the bonus photo opportunities have been good to get! However, I really love balck and white photos - they inspire me for some reason. Maybe it's because I have to inject my own feelings about them, without colour to guide me? Maybe it's because when I firsrt started taking photos black and white was all we could afford...how I dreamed of being a colour rich photographer! And now....

The above hotel in a place called Ngarawahia - rather run down part of town but I kind of liked this one. I have 'played' with it, obviously but what do you say we pop in and have a beer and acatch up yarn? Looks just the place.

Being away from home means I also don't get to fuss over this chap as much as I'd like to...
