Wistful Wednesday

Am feeling rather wistful today, no special reason really. The sun is shining, we had a flurry of snow for about 2 minutes yesterday, car was iced over this morning but all good now and no aftershocks that we have felt. Things should be on the up and up.

I've been fossicking about on YouTube lately, and have rediscovered a group I had forgotten about. I can't say they are a band because they aren't really a band, they are a group of Kiwi musicians who get together to play live only and as a result have varied styles whenever they get together so you can't even 'peg' them as any particular type. Here, have a listen to these two different tracks and you will see what I mean.

Laddles and jellyspoons - I give you "FLY, MY PRETTIES"....

Pretty good, and no brass section! You could imagine sitting in a groovy bar and having a grand time out with this group eh?

Now, try this one...this is for the wistful bit in me today. I think I will dedicate it to someone in the 'states who is going through a rough time at the moment. You know who you are!

Monday, Monday

An abandoned fixer-upper, on main road.

Sometimes I almost feel like heading away to the land, somewhere quiet yet with easy access to a still (of course); this particular 'castle' wasn't very far from a wee town in the middle of nowhere. I wonder what on earth made the people of the past decide to drop their roots down in that spot. There is nothing of note there!

Gearing up to New Zealand Music Month

I am listening a fair bit to this group at the moment, a good Kiwi band!

The Phoenix Foundation's "Pot" is a good sound, I like this one very much...tell me what you think!

Tuesday Tipple

You know, we have had some brilliant weather here lately...and it's worth putting up with the colder mornings to get the sunny 'chocolate box' days that follow.

Thats why today we're having a HOAR FROST 1

2tsp gin
2tsp white curacao
2tsp light rum
2tsp grenadine
2tsp lemon juice

Shahe the ingredients together with ice in the shaker and strain into the cocktail glass with a sugared rim. Gotta love a sugared rim!

Speaking of gin...here's a Kiwi lass with that very name....

Tuesday Tipple

My first week back at work after the holiday break...I need a Stinger!

45ml brandy
15ml white creme de menthe
ice

Pour all ingredients into mixing glass filled with ice, stir then strain into a serving glass. I'd use a cocktail glass, no garnish.

And now, for some good fun Kiwi music from the Coalrangers!
