How to wake up early while on holiday

Top Tip- live in an earthquake zone! We had a nice start to the day...a 5.1 just after 6am followed by 3.4 and a 4 around 8am. I have given up trying to sleep in. Last time there was this kind of pattern (or "swarm" as the propellor heads call it) of shaking there was an even bigger one every two hours. It's currently 9.10am so let's see what happens next eh? You're welcome to come along for the ride at Geonet. Apparently we have now had 4, 432 shakes since 4 September 'quake.

Today I'm taking the kids to see an exhibit at the Art Gallery (presumably it's still standing) from a chap called Ron Meuck which we have been looking froward to for some time now. Our youngest is especially keen to see the giant baby (personally I think it will make my eyes water...)

So, for something that might make the rest of you cry, I found this clip on YouTube. Enjoy!

My heart goes out to you and your family - still getting shocks? I'm not sure I could live like that. My nerves would be absolutely frazzled.

Steve - the boffins say we can expect this to carry on for at least a year! Don't worry, I've put some safety features on the hutch for you and yours. Plus all drinks in my bar now served in Tommy Tippees - waste not, want not!

Attagirl - make mine a Vodka Martini (shaken, not stirred)!

I think what that geological fault line of yours needs poured into the middle for hardcore to stabilise it is a clutch of bankers.

Shall I send ours over? We can't afford to keep them anyway and the RSPCA doesn't want them either.

Laura - brilliant idea! We could make a start with ours and fill it up with the rest...can't believe we hadn't thought of this before!!

I'd feel a lot sorrier for you if I wasn't buried in snow (figuratively speaking) while watching the NZ Xmas video you so thoughtfully posted. Anyway, isn't it good to be up early on vacation cuz that way you can get more hours of fun crammed in!

That art baby looks downright terrifying, but pretty much captures how big a baby feels to the mother when she's giving birth to it, I think.

Robert- thanks, all help appreciated! We just need to find the 'off' switch...

Louciao- ah snow!! Maybe that will be our next trial. We had 2 more quakes before we got to the Gallery (both 3.9 and both rather sharp and jolty) - ah, living in the fast lane at last...

I love the video; so full of smart, funny ideas. Crowded House with laughter.

You New Zealanders are made of granite or is it igneous rocks?

I hadn't realized you'd still be getting so many aftershocks for so long. Hope people don't get too blase about them.
Video was funny, but that artist is not quite my cup of tea.
