The things you see on a sunny Saturday

We went back to the Art Centre on Saturday, it was sunny and the day begged for a coffee and some fudge! Some of the craft work for sale, above, is felt. I loved that hat!
You can buy mirrors (can you spot me??)
Here is an example of the different art - the old buildings and a new sculpture....
And a bit of colour with the chairs.
I know, I'm being a bit naughty but hey, this photo just had to be shot!

This week in Christchurch we are waiting for the jury decision in yet another murder case. I say murder but the "perp" says it was manslaughter becasue the young lady "provoked him". This guy was a tutor at the university attended by the victim. Rightly or wrongly she became his girlfriend in what appears to be a rather fraught relationship. he was and is much older than the young girl, just 23 in death. He stabbed her with a knife he just happened to have in his bag. He mutilated her body. The police counted 216 stab wounds. I hope he gets the book thrown at him. This guy has not shown the remotest glimmer of remorse. In fact he has said that he has had time to get over it and appeared to suggest everyone else should too. This man (and I use that term loosely) is one person who should be locked up and never see the light of day.

In the interim, while I sit here with my knitting and waiting for the decision, a bit of Curtis Mayfield I think to calm my jangled nerves. PLUS this should have been posted on Saturday, and this is my Saturday Song! If you pop over to Louciao at Decollete you will know the importance of the Saturday Song.

Provoked? 216 stab wounds and mutilations cannot be justified by "provocation". It reminds me of a case a friend told me about in London where a guy had stabbed another in the back over 200 times and then tried to claim it was "self defence"...

Love the jester statue and as for the old fossil... any idea what dinosaur it was? ;-)

Steve - yeah..."Oh she was mean to me" as a defence? I don't think so.
As for the old fossil...I'm picking it was an Oldbatasaurus!

Sounds like a disturbing case; these older men-younger women things can be very dodgy.

You take some great photographs and where you live looks just fab despite that dreadful case. 216 stab wounds doesn't suggest manslaughter to me.

Unseen - thank you, I am rather proud of Christchurch altho' every winter I wonder why the heck we live here!!

Villager - I know, I have 2 daughters and am always pointing out the type of boys they can BRING HOME ONE DAY! (having said that, my husband is 10 years older than me!)

Selina - you're very kind, I do love taking photos. Manslaughter doesn't cut it with me either, if you take into account the legal definition of manslaughter v murder and the weight put on "intent" then I can't see how the jury can convict him for anything other than murder.

Can't see how manslaughter could even be considered in such a horrific case as this.

Those felt items look way cool - I think I'm about to be converted (never much liked the 'old' felt).

The guy deserves to rot in jail for sure. Sounds like his former student probably realised the greaser was taking advantage of her and tried to end the relationship, thus signing her death warrant. What else would make him so furious?

Fingers crossed justice will triumph - not part of the jury are you Sagittarian?

On a lighter note, love the jester statue.

This may be one of the highest density posts I've seen to date, covering such a wide range of human experience, I hardly know where to start...

Before I forget, in the video, which is great btw, that sure looks very much like David Lindley in the back, part hidden by a microphone through most of it, playing a pedal steel slide guitar... and if that is David Lindley, well, I'm sure you know that he and Jackson Browne collaborated together for years on many musical productions...

So is that really the Sagittarian's jean clad leg in the mirror ? If you keep giving us bits and pieces, one day we'll finally have enough to paste together an entire picture of you... :-D

Coffee and fudge sounds like a great idea, is there any left ???

As for "Oldbatasaurus"... now really, is that kind to the poor ancient fossils among us ??? LOL ! Fossils indeed... ahh, we're not getting any younger...

As for the tutor turned stabber, if he's guilty, do they still have the death penalty in New Zealand? Don't know if you've been over to Lille Diane's place (This Time Tomorrow, in my sidebar) but there is a discussion going on at her other website where she just posted an excerpt from a book she's working on, which has a monstrous character in it... which sparked alot of comments. Anyway, I agree with you, hope they throw the book at him, heck, the whole law library while they're at it, sort of like stoning someone to death, he needs to be booked...

So, the suspense was killing me from the start... did you buy the felt hat ???

OK. So now I definitely want to move to Christchurch! That art centre just seems too good to resist. And felt!! I've made a couple of felt hats...they look a bit like pith helmets and would serve well if one ever had to beat down a door with one's head. Could be good to wear for your savage winters (don't make laugh!)

I would hope that the heinous crime discussed in this post is not so much to do with the fact that the guy is very much older than the girl, but more to do with the fact that he's a psychotic killer! I say this because someone very close to me has been living with a man who is her father's age and is about to break up with him!

Fudge with coffee sounds good, but could we take the fudge home and have it with drinks at your house?

PS. Loved the tune! Thanks for that. Gave me an idea for my hair, too... ;-}

Violet - the final summing up takes place today and tehn the jury will have their chance to deliberate; shouldn't take too long! That felt was so deleicate it was actually hard to believe it was really felt!

Laura - lovely to see you back! I have been on jury service before but wasn't called up this time (mores the pity!! I say, waving a knitting needle furiously)

Owen - I wobndered who would spot the Jackson Browne connection first! And yes, that was a bit of my leg...which is not getting any younger, you're right there! No, didn't buy the hat, as lovely as it was it didn't seem to sit right on my bonce! BTW - have been in touch with teh RSA regarding Sgt Nicholas and hope to find out more later today.

Louciao - well, if you move here best to do that in summer! (I know, I know our winter is probably not a patch on yours); the felt was lovely. My mother makes her own felt and so I feel qualified to state that this particular batch of felt was superbly crafted! I didn't buy the hat tho' (see above). Yeah, the crime is the psychopathic aspect - honestly he's a nutjob and no mistake! (My husband is 10 years older than me.....)
As for the drinks at my place, of course! It is Tuesday here so the drink of the week will be on the screen soon.

Black jeans, slim legs--that would be you! I think the Art Centre is the most magnificent structure, even with the touches of flair: court jester and red chairs. I am crazy about Jackson Browne! didn't catch it. I'll visit Louciao about Music Saturday! and it's Outdoor Wednesday. As for the trial, I just can't imagne any heinous crimes down there--it seems so civilized and peaceful. At least this guy isn't on the loose. Take care, Sagit.

Love the 'Fossil shoppe' photo.

Murderers who cannot understand remorse should never be let out in my view.

They have an aberration that cannot be changed and are just too dangerous.
