Tuesday Tipple

Because it is cold here I am having Gluhwein tonight! You can make this with cider too but tonight we're going to use the following:-

1 bottle of red wine (if you have any left after the weekend, that is!)
3 tablespoons of sugar
2 slices of lemon
2 slices of orange
1 cinnamon stick

Warm all the ingredients in a saucepan until very hot. (DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT test this using a metal spoon...your tongue will not thank you) and be careful not to boil the mixture (no wasting of the alcohol please).

Serve in a heated glass, or bucket, if you can't be bothered getting up and refilling your glass too often. I find this works best when you have someone running about pandering to you!

Send him over! Oh, I love hot toddies! p.s. the Scots' side of my family drank another hot drink called Tom & Jerry (with an egg and powdered sugar batter). Do you know it? I see you're in winter now, and we're smack in the middle of summer. But we can always turn up the air conditioning!

Hmm... sounds like rather posh mulled wine but hey - why not live life to the full occasionally? Or even every Tuesday?

It's very similar to the way I do mulled wine at Christmas but I add cloves too and last year, a friend told me to use lemonade instead of the sugar and I have to say ....it's good !

Sounds like the hot wine with extra sugar that's for sale on the ski slopes around here... people tend to ski better after a couple of these in the afternoon... it loosens them up... but I guess even for skiing around the house this would be ok. The bucket sounds best ! :-D

Hi all, thanks for stopping by and having a tipple. This drink is probably common in the bars of a ski slope, I'll get the bucket ready for you Owen. Haven't heard of Tom and Jerry (the drink) Margaret so am away to look in my bar tenders book! Lou, you can see why the panders need saving!
