Looks like a Monarch, but I thought they were North American butterflies, migrating in massive numbers to Mexico every year... ah but Wikipedia tells me they appeared in New Zealand sometime in the 19th century... having stowed away on a ship ??? In any case, they are lovely... will shut up now... ssshhhhh, don't want to frighten it off...

It's so quiet around here I can hear its wings beat.

Thanks for this butterfly kiss.

Do you know why your picture has made me so happy? Because it makes me think of summer and today we have had another gloriously sunny (if cold) day that maybe, just maybe, heralds the start of spring and in just a few short weeks there'll be butterflies in our garden.....
sorry, I'll stop talking now, given it's silent sunday and all !!

We got out very early for a walk around Studley Royal adjacent to Fountain Abbey.

Very crisp and quiet.

Too cold for butterflies though.

Villager - I know, I took this photo in the park next door to our house. Usually there are hundreds of them but for the past few years we have noticed they don't appear to be so many in number...

Steve - thats the ticket!

Owen - yep, we got the Monarch's alright. In the park next door there is a huge tree which used to turn orange with so many butterflies on it, sadly as I mentioned above there aren't so many anymore. Not sure why?

Louciao - you're very welcome! Mwah!

selina - oh thats a lovely feeling isn't it, glad I could help!

AWB - sounds like you will have butterflies soon enough tho', our mornings are starting to get darker and chillier...
